Preparing Sherpa Orchestrator (downloading files)#

At this stage, an archive with Sherpa Orchestrator files for local installation will be downloaded.

Downloading the application archive#

💡 Notes on downloading files

curl -L -OJ URL - downloads the file from the server with its original name

  • -L - follows redirects
  • -O - saves the file with its original name
  • -J - uses the filename provided by the server
  • URL - download link for the update archive

Expected result: The Sherpa Orchestrator update file will appear in the current directory.

Expected time: 5-15 minutes depending on internet speed.

Possible issues while downloading:#

  • Download error: Check your internet connection and verify the URL
  • Not enough space: The archive can be large (500 MB+), so make sure there is enough free space
  • Corrupted files: If the download was interrupted, try downloading the file again
  • Access rights: Make sure the user has write permission in the current directory

Verifying a successful download:#

ls -la orchestrator_local_update_*.tar.gz 2>/dev/null | wc -l - counts the downloaded files

  • ls -la - shows detailed file information
  • orchestrator_local_update_*.tar.gz - archive search pattern
  • 2>/dev/null - hides errors if files are not found
  • | wc -l - counts the number of lines (files)

ls -lh orchestrator_local_update_*.tar.gz 2>/dev/null - shows file sizes

  • -l - long format
  • -h - human-readable size format

file orchestrator_local_update_*.tar.gz - determines the file type

  • Verifies that the file is a valid archive
