# Authentication Mechanisms

Authentication of Discovery Agents in the Discovery Server is performed using a Bearer Token, which is passed in the request headers. The Bearer Token is matched with the unique GUID of each instance of the Discovery Agent. For authenticating users of the Discovery Server web interface, authorization is done using a username-password pair. Upon re-login, a session cookie with a limited lifespan is used.
